Why Do My Prints Have Gaps?

Why Do My 3D Prints Have Gaps?

Common causes

  • Partial nozzle clog: clean with a cold pull; replace nozzle if persistent
  • Extruder slipping: drive gear teeth packed with filament dust, idler tension too low
  • Wet filament: water flashes to steam at the nozzle, creating gaps
  • Flow rate too low: calibrate with a single-wall test cube
  • Print speed too high for the material: filament cannot melt fast enough
