3D Printer Maintenance Basics
Weekly
- Wipe bed with isopropyl alcohol before each print
- Brass-brush extruder drive gear teeth (filament dust accumulates)
- Visual check of belts and pulleys for debris
- Check filament path for kinks or wear
Monthly
- Check belt tension (should pluck like a low guitar note)
- Inspect nozzle for wear or bell-mouthing
- Clean print bed thoroughly with soap and water
- Verify bed levelling and Z-offset
Every 6 months
- Lubricate lead screws (light lithium grease or PTFE)
- Lubricate linear rails if used
- Check stepper motor connections
- Replace worn build sheet if surface is damaged
- Re-tighten frame bolts
