What's a Good First 3D Print?

Standard first prints

  • 20 mm calibration cube: 20 minutes, tests dimensional accuracy
  • 3DBenchy: 1 hour, tests overhangs, bridges, fine detail and small features
  • Single-wall calibration cube: 20 minutes, tests flow rate calibration
  • Temperature tower: 30 minutes, tests nozzle temperature optimum for your filament

After the calibration set

  • Keychain or zipper pull (small, fast, personal)
  • Phone stand or desk organiser (useful right away)
  • Cable clips or wall hooks (functional)
  • Print-in-place flexible toys (impressive for non-printers)

Best filament for first prints

Standard PLA in a mid-range colour. PLA+ if you want slightly tougher first prints. Matte PLA if you want them to look nicer. Skip ABS, ASA, nylon and TPU until you have 20+ prints under your belt.
